Young footballers continued to impress with spirited performances on the fifth day of the UDAAN U-20 Border Girls Football Championship held at different venues across Udalguri district on Thursday, stated a press release.
At the Orangajuli Tea Garden ground, Bhergaon Football Club defeated Orangajuli Tea Estate 1-0 to book a place in the semifinals. The match was organised with the support of the 313 Field Regiment of Red Horn Gunners under the Indian Army’s 21 Mountain Brigade.
In another match at the Paneri Tea Estate Football Ground, Rangapara Football Club registered a convincing 5-0 victory over Suwala Tea Estate to advance to the semifinals. The match was supported by the 629 Satta Battery of the Indian Army.
The tournament has drawn enthusiastic response from local residents and football lovers, with spectators turning up in large numbers to cheer for the players. Organisers said the championship aims to promote women’s football and provide opportunities to young girls from border and tea garden areas.
The semifinal matches will be played on Thursday at the Orangajuli Tea Estate and Bhooteachang Tea Estate grounds.
