A decade after transforming India’s digital landscape, Jio is strategically expanding its horizons beyond traditional mobile connectivity by heavily investing in network software, artificial intelligence, enterprise platforms, and robust patent portfolios aimed at international markets. Led by Jio Platforms Managing Director Akash Ambani, the company is positioning itself as a comprehensive technology creator rather than just a conventional telecom operator. Having achieved rapid nationwide 5G coverage with over 268 million 5G users and a fixed broadband base crossing 27 million connections, Jio has built an indigenous, end-to-end 5G stack encompassing core network, radio, and operations software. This shift toward deep-tech innovation is further evidenced by its growing intellectual property footprint, which includes thousands of patent filings globally and a top-20 ranking in the World Intellectual Property Organization’s Patent Cooperation Treaty index. Looking ahead, Jio is actively developing cutting-edge solutions in cloud computing, private 5G, and AI integration, with plans to commercialize its home-grown technology stack on the global stage and unlock lucrative new revenue streams outside of domestic telecom services.
