Legendary Bollywood actress Kamini Kaushal passed away at the age of 98 at her residence in Mumbai late Thursday night. A close family friend confirmed the news, stating that the veteran star died peacefully in her sleep. She would have turned 99 in February 2026.
Kamini Kaushal was one of the earliest female stars of Indian cinema, with a career spanning over seven decades. She made her debut in 1946 with Neecha Nagar, which won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, and went on to deliver memorable performances in classics such as Shaheed, Arzoo, Shabnam, and Biraj Bahu. Her final screen appearance was in Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), where she shared the frame with Kareena Kapoor Khan and Aamir Khan.

Kareena Kapoor Khan shared a vintage photograph of Kamini Kaushal on social media, calling her a “graceful icon” and expressing gratitude for having worked with her. Veteran actor Dharmendra also paid homage, recalling her as his “first co-star” and sharing a nostalgic monochrome photo from their early days in cinema.
Kamini Kaushal was known not only for her acting prowess but also for her dignified presence and pioneering role in shaping the portrayal of women in Hindi films. She balanced her film career with personal responsibilities, raising her late sister’s children after a tragic accident, and remained active in theatre and television well into her later years.
Her family has requested privacy during this time of mourning. No official cause of death has been disclosed, though reports suggest age-related health issues may have contributed.
