Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that Assam Police has become the first State agency in the North East to be registered as Offline Verification Seeking Entity (OVSE) for Aadhaar under Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
“Overall Assam police became the third police force nationally to be registered as OVSE,” he said.
An OVSE is an organization registered with UIDAI that is authorized to verify an individual’s identity using Aadhaar QR codes or through M Aadhar App. Crucially, this verification process can be completed without connecting to UIDAI’s central database, offering unparalleled advantages in terms of data privacy and operational efficiency.
Sarma said that large parts of Assam are hills, chars (riverine areas), border villages, etc, whic don’t have fast internet service. “Being an OVSE will allow a police patrol party to instantly verify someone’s credentials by scanning the QR code and there will be no need to depend on internet speed,” the Chief Minister said.
He mentioned that Aadhar QR code carries an unforgeable digital seal, which makes it much harder for a criminal or illegal infiltrator to use a fake or photocopied Aadhaar card to mislead the police.
“It will also make everyday police services people actually use, like tenant verification, character verification, passport police-verification and arms-license verification faster and simpler. With this registration, Assam takes another step forward towards efficient, water tight and people friendly policing,” he added.
