Two people lost their lives and four others sustained injuries after a sudden landslide struck near Bermeli bridge under Ravangla Sub-Division in Sikkim on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as Lal Bir Rai Borong of Phamtam GPU and Man Bahadur Gurung of Bermeli ward.
According to official information, the victims were part of a team engaged in clearing a landslip that had blocked the road connecting Sada village and Phamtam village when another landslide occurred, trapping the workers.
The injured, identified as Mohan Bahadur Chhetri and Sonam Wangdi Bhutia, were immediately evacuated to hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Rescue operations were launched by multiple agencies, including Indian Army, SDRF, police, fire and emergency services and DDMA following the incident.
