UEFA has confirmed that its boycott of FIFA competitions will continue.
Despite Gianni Infantino remaining as President of football’s world governing body FIFA, the European football governing body UEFA has taken this decision.
UEFA has made it clear that the decision was taken due to dissatisfaction with FIFA’s current management and policies. As a result of this boycott, uncertainty has arisen over the participation of Europe’s top football teams in FIFA competitions.
UEFA officials stated that their stance will remain unchanged for the sake of football and for proper governance.
It may be noted that FIFA has apologized for the mistake made regarding FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s $20 billion special World Cup proposal. The proposal involved selling the commercial rights of the World Cup, which was withdrawn following strong opposition from football officials around the world.
At a meeting held in Morocco, senior FIFA officials reiterated their full support for Infantino’s leadership. FIFA said there was a mistake in handling the process and that it should have been done differently. FIFA has formally apologized by sending a letter to its Council and member associations. The organization has also pledged that such mistakes will not be repeated in the future.
Infantino had planned to raise $4.2 billion from investors through a commercial entity called ‘FIFA Forward Enterprise’, which has now been scrapped.
