In the only Test match that commenced between New Zealand and Ireland, the batting lineups of both teams faced a severe collapse. Batting first, New Zealand announced the declaration of their first innings after scoring 410 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Following this, coming out to bat, the Ireland team faced a continuous collapse against New Zealand’s disciplined bowling from the very beginning. At one stage, the team was facing disaster, having lost 6 wickets for just 38 runs. However, at that critical juncture, Lorcan Tucker with 73 runs and Andy McBrine with 40 runs rescued the team, leading a recovery that eventually saw their first innings wrap up at 199 runs.
Consequently, Ireland faced the prospect of a follow-on. Earlier, New Zealand had posted 410 runs in their first innings. The backbone of their innings was Devon Conway’s brilliant century, along with Daryl Mitchell’s attractive 98 runs. Rachin Ravindra scored 121 runs. In response to this massive total, Ireland played an attractive innings of 186 runs (in their fightback).
