State-run Bank of Baroda (BoB) is investigating an alleged data breach after reports claimed that nearly 1 terabyte of sensitive information was leaked on the dark web. The compromised data is reportedly linked to retail and corporate banking operations, including customer account details, loan information, net banking records, non-resident Indian (NRI) and corporate banking data, as well as information related to branches and ATMs.

The Mumbai-based lender has initiated a detailed forensic investigation into the matter and stated that it is working with relevant authorities while following applicable regulatory guidelines. The bank has assured that necessary measures are being taken to assess the impact and strengthen security systems.

The incident has brought renewed attention to the growing threat of cyberattacks targeting Indian organisations. In recent years, several major companies have faced data breaches involving customer information, confidential corporate records, and intellectual property.

In another significant cybersecurity incident, Tata Electronics confirmed in June 2026 that it had faced a cyberattack after ransomware group World Leaks claimed responsibility for stealing and leaking more than 200,000 files amounting to over 630 GB of data. The allegedly compromised information reportedly included engineering documents, supplier details, factory data, and material specifications linked to major global companies.

The government is investigating the Tata Electronics incident, while the latest BoB case has further highlighted the urgent need for stronger cybersecurity frameworks, data protection measures, and continuous monitoring across India’s corporate sector.
