Mumbai police have apprehended a 31-year-old man, recently returned from the United States, following a violent stabbing incident that left two security guards seriously injured. The attack occurred late Sunday night at a high-end residential complex when the suspect, identified as a highly educated professional, reportedly approached the guards and engaged them in a religious debate. According to eyewitness accounts and preliminary police statements, the situation escalated rapidly after the suspect demanded that the guards recite the Kalma (an Islamic profession of faith). When the guards were unable to comply or refused, the man allegedly produced a sharp-edged weapon and attacked them, inflicting deep wounds before being overpowered by other staff and residents.
The victims were rushed to a nearby municipal hospital, where one remains in critical condition while the other is reported to be stable. Investigation into the suspect’s background has revealed that he had been living in the US for several years and had returned to India only recently. Family members have reportedly suggested to authorities that the individual may have been suffering from deteriorating mental health and extreme isolation since his return. However, given the nature of the confrontation, the Mumbai Police and local intelligence units are also probing whether the suspect had been radicalized online or influenced by extremist ideologies during his time abroad. A case has been registered under sections pertaining to attempted murder and outraging religious feelings. Security has been heightened across the neighborhood as officials work to determine the exact motive behind this unprovoked and targeted act of violence.
