Two farmers were killed after being struck by lightning while working in their agricultural fields near the Indo-Bangladesh border in Assam’s Dhubri district on September 9.
The incident took place at Kedar Part-III village under the Golokganj sector. The deceased have been identified as Moslem Uddin and Abul Hussain, both residents of the village.
According to local sources, the two farmers had crossed the border fencing through Gate No. 51 to reach their agricultural fields in the no-man’s-land area on the other side of the fence.
While they were working in the fields, a severe thunderstorm hit the area, and both men were struck by lightning. They died on the spot.
Following information about the incident, personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF), along with a team from Golokganj Police Station, reached the spot and recovered the bodies.
The bodies were later sent to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
The incident has cast a pall of grief over Kedar Part-III village, with the sudden deaths of the two farmers leaving their families and the local community in shock.
