The Congress has brought a serious allegation against BJP MLA Jitu Goswami by accusing him of vote rigging during the polling for the Nagaon Lok Sabha bye-election.
A press release issued by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today claimed that widespread rigging was carried out by the BJP workers at polling station number 123 and 125 under the leadership of Goswami.
According to the press release, senior Congress leader and MP Rakibul Hussain had lodged formal complaints about the alleged rigging with the Election Commission and the Returning Officer, but so far no visible action has been taken in this regard.
“It is very unfortunate that despite an MP lodging a written complaint about such a serious issue, the Election Commission and the district election authority have remained mute spectator so far, which has raised questions about their impartiality and the fairness of the election process. The Congress party strongly condemn this,” the release stated.
The Congress party further defended immediate intervention of the Election Commission and strong action against Jitu Goswami to ensure free and fair voting.
