Axis Bank Ltd. is considering splitting its Mumbai workforce across multiple offices as it prepares to vacate its eight-storey headquarters in Worli for reconstruction. The bank has reportedly been unable to find a single office large enough to accommodate the roughly 3,000 employees currently based at Axis House. The premises are expected to be vacated by April and demolished to make way for a new 32-storey headquarters, which could take about five years to complete. No final decision has been made on the temporary office arrangements, and Axis Bank has declined to comment. The relocation could affect teams across banking, investment banking, non-bank finance and global capability centre operations, as well as senior management. Axis Bank already operates from several offices in Mumbai and plans to consolidate its workforce once the new headquarters is ready. The potential move highlights the growing challenge faced by major companies in densely populated Mumbai, where demand for large office spaces remains strong. Other global financial firms, including Citigroup and HSBC, have also been seeking additional office space in the city as availability tightens.
