Assam Cabinet has approved a proposal to levy green cess on transfer of ownership of vehicles to support ongoing afforestation and conservation activities.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Dispur on Sunday.
The green cess, however, will not apply to EVs, CNG vehicles; 2, 6 and 3 wheelers and transfer of ownership owing to death of vehicle owner.
The Cabinet has also approved a 12% reservation for Assam-domiciled ex-Agniveers in recruitment to posts of all categories in the Assam Police, APRO, SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, Forest Guards and Excise.
Further, the Cabinet has approved Rs 1 lakh per month under the Chief Minister’s Scheme for Public Emergency to support the functioning of the revered Madhupur Satra.
The Cabinet gave its nod to the Assam Municipal Corporation Election (Amendment) Rules, 2026, to empower the Court of the District Judge of the concerned district in Municipal Corporation election matters.
The Assam Cabinet has approved customised incentives for Dalmia Bharat Green Vision Ltd for its Rs 10,200 crore clinker manufacturing units.
The Cabinet has approved the execution of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Assam and the Council Areas (BTC, Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong) for the implementation, operationalisation, monitoring and long-term sustainability of rural water supply schemes under Jal Jeevan.
The Cabinet has also cleared the proposal for the engagement of Tata Consulting Engineers Ltd for the preparation of a Detailed Project Report for Phase II of the Brahmaputra Riverfront Development Project, from Kachari Bazar to the foothills of Nilachal Hills.
