Members of Parliament from Asaam and Arunachal Pradesh have appealed for maintaining peace along the border.
The appeal was issued during a meeting of the MPs of both states organised by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister and Arunachal Pradesh MP Kiren Rijiju on Thursday.
“We must live together harmoniously as brothers and sisters and settle any land dispute through peaceful negotiation only,” said Rijiju.
“The relationship between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh is a deep bond, built over many generations, rooted in brotherhood, affection, and mutual respect. Through dialogue, we are resolving our differences, and even if every issue does not find a solution, we will continue to move forward on this path.
Perhaps our borders are separate, but our hearts are one,” he added.
On the other hand, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged people to maintain peace and harmony.
“I appeal to the people of Assam and Arunachal to maintain peace and harmony. Boundaries may define our States, but they can never divide our hearts,” said Sarma.
He added that in recent years, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have resolved most of their border differences through dialogue and friendship, and only 52 villages remain, and both Governments will continue discussions in the same spirit to resolve the dispute completely.
Tension soared in the border areas after the Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK), the apex student organisation of Assam’s Mising community, and other local groups on Wednesday launched an indefinite economic blockade against Arunachal Pradesh in protest against the alleged firing in which 12 indigenous people from Assam were injured.
The situation, however, eased on Thursday night after suspended the blockade. However, it gave a 48-hour ultimatum to arrest four Arunachal Pradesh-based persons accused in the August 10 firing incident.
