Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka on Sunday night said the “illegal detention” of him and other volunteers by the Assam Police has “finally ended”.
He made the remarks in a post on X after being released along with the other detainees.
“The illegal detention by Assam Police has finally ended. We have asked Police to go and drop us from where we were picked up illegally in the first place,” Ranka said.

Ranka and several members of his team were detained by Assam Police in Guwahati on Sunday afternoon, shortly before the organisation was scheduled to hold a regional volunteers.
Ranka had arrived in Guwahati on Saturday as part of the CJP’s activities in Assam.
His planned visit included meeting families affected by the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, visiting schools to assess their condition and interacting with CJP volunteers.
