Ending a decade-long wait, India’s parliamentary system is moving towards a new chapter in history. From April 16 to April 18, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called a special session to implement the Women Reservation Bill. Participating in the ‘Nari Shakti Bandhan Sammelan’ at Delhi’s Vigyan Bhawan, he mentioned that this decision is groundbreaking for 21st-century India.

With the aim of strengthening women’s empowerment, the government has planned two important amendments. The 2023 Nari Shakti Bandhan Act involves the redefinition of the women’s reservation populace. Preparations are underway to implement it based on data from 2011 before the 2029 elections due to delays in the provisions of the population. This step will initiate a new work culture in India’s governance system.

The Prime Minister says that the Parliament stands at the threshold of a new history, with the aim of transforming past ideas into reality as well as fulfilling the resolutions of the future. As an example of increasing the competence and dignity of women in the country’s key positions, he mentions the success of the Jal Jeevan Mission. At the grassroots level, women actively participate, making the entire system more responsive.

The government has been making efforts to provide protection for women from birth to financial independence through schemes like the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Mission Indradhanush, and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. In the special session, the government has focused on discussion and cooperation to finalize the drafting of the bill.
