Mumbai, August 5, 2025 — Yash Raj Films’ highly anticipated action thriller War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani, has officially become the longest film in the studio’s Spy Universe, with a certified runtime of 2 hours and 53 minutes (173 minutes). Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the film has received a U/A certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with minimal revision requests.
The runtime excludes a post-credit sequence, which remains under wraps and will be certified separately. This secretive segment is expected to expand the Spy Universe further, following the tradition of Pathaan and Tiger 3.
War 2 continues the legacy of the 2019 blockbuster War, with Hrithik reprising his role as Major Kabir. Jr NTR joins the franchise in a pivotal role, marking a high-profile crossover between Bollywood and South Indian cinema. Kiara Advani adds to the star power with her debut in the action genre, featuring in several combat sequences.
The film promises six major action set pieces, choreographed by international stunt teams. Among the highlights are Hrithik’s dramatic introduction and Jr NTR’s pirate-themed combat sequence. The CBFC has praised the film’s patriotic tone and its “India First” messaging, aligning with its strategic release on August 14, just ahead of Independence Day.
With a production budget reportedly around ₹400 crore, War 2 is expected to be a major box office draw across Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu markets. The film’s release sets the stage for future installments in the YRF Spy Universe, including the upcoming Alpha starring Alia Bhatt.
