President Droupadi Murmu accepted Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation as India’s vice president. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has received the letter and will shortly issue an official announcement. This was revealed when BJP MP Ghanshyam Tiwari, who was chairing the Rajya Sabha proceedings, declared that Dhankhar’s resignation as vice president had been accepted. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already wished Dhankhar well. Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji has numerous options to serve our nation in a variety of roles, including as Vice President of India, the Prime Minister wrote on X. I hope he stays healthy. The opposition has been questioning Dhankhar’s abrupt resignation, which coincided with the PM’s appointment.
Citing health issues, Dhankhar resigned on July 21, the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, after serving as India’s 14th vice president since August 2022. The BJP declared Dhankhar the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) vice presidential candidate on July 16, 2022. With 528 of 710 valid votes, Dhankhar defeated opposition candidate Margaret Alva in the August 6, 2022, vice presidential election, earning 74.37 percent of the vote, the largest margin of victory since 1992. In addition to becoming the Vice President, Dhankhar presided over a number of significant legislative sessions as the Rajya Sabha’s ex officio chairman. Respected and criticised equally across party lines, he was well-known for his rigorous adherence to parliamentary procedures and straightforward style.
