A two-day district-level training program on scientific beekeeping was successfully conducted on February 10 and 11 at the Panchayat Hall in Ramakrishnapur. Organized by the Department of Agriculture, A&N Administration in collaboration with the National Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM), the event aimed to promote sustainable apiculture practices and highlight the economic potential of honey production in the region.

The program was inaugurated by Mr. Parmanathan, Pramukh of the Panchayat Samiti, Little Andaman, who served as the chief guest. He was joined by guest of honour Mr. Ashamanja Halder, Zilla Parishad Member, along with Pradhans from Ramakrishnapur, Vivekanandapur, and Rabindranagar. The event saw active participation from PRI members, SHGs, cooperatives, and farmers from tribal communities.

In his address, Mr. Parmanathan encouraged local farmers to adopt beekeeping as a viable livelihood option, noting Little Andaman’s emerging role as a honey production hub capable of meeting the broader needs of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

The first day featured interactive sessions with experts and experienced beekeepers, who shared insights into modern beekeeping techniques, the role of bees in agriculture, and the economic benefits of apiculture. On the second day, participants visited demonstration fields in Vivekanandapur and Ramakrishnapur, where hands-on training was provided on colony management, honey extraction, and multiplication techniques by Mr. Paramashivam, Head Worker at GCM.

The training concluded with a feedback session and prize distribution, recognizing the top three participants for their engagement and performance during the program.
