The Chairman of the ANTCC’s Campaign Committee, TSG Bhasker, has vehemently opposed the Electricity Department of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration’s proposed significant increase in electricity tariffs. Bhasker described this action as “shocking” and “untenable,” particularly in light of the already elevated electricity prices in the Union Territory. He stressed that the suggested increase would severely affect the tourism sector, which serves as the foundation of the Islands’ economy. Furthermore, Bhasker criticized the absence of stakeholder engagement in the tariff adjustment process and called for a complete retraction of the proposal. He cautioned that continuous increases without systemic enhancements would render electricity unaffordable for the average citizen and hinder private sector development in the Islands.
