A skill development training programme aimed at empowering women members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) was successfully conducted at Gram Panchayat Shyam Nagar, Swaraj Dweep. Organized by the C.D. Block, Prothrapur under the Directorate of RD, PRIs & ULBs, A&N Administration, the initiative focused on handicraft making using bamboo and waste materials.

The training, held from October 13 to October 22, 2025, saw active participation from 26 SHG members. The programme was designed in response to local demand from SHG members interested in enhancing their livelihood opportunities through creative and sustainable handicraft production.

Participants were trained in crafting eco-friendly products using locally available resources, with an emphasis on marketable designs and techniques. The sessions included hands-on demonstrations, material handling, and guidance on product pricing and marketing strategies.

Officials from the Directorate highlighted the importance of such initiatives in promoting rural entrepreneurship and self-reliance among women. The programme also aimed to strengthen the objectives of the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) by equipping SHG members with practical skills that can translate into income-generating activities.

The successful completion of the training marks a significant step toward sustainable development and women’s economic empowerment in the region.
