For the International Year of Cooperatives 2025, the Department of Cooperation organized a tree planting drive at the A&N State Cooperative Union in Teylerabad with the theme “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” in collaboration with the Forest Department and the Andaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Union. The primary guest, the Registrar of Cooperative Societies and Secretary of Cooperation, welcomed the event. Participants included the Board of Directors, trainees and instructors from the State Cooperative Union, as well as representatives from the Forest Department and the Department of Cooperation. Over 700 fruit-bearing saplings were planted during the two-day Van Mahotsav event with the help of the Forest Department.
When the Secretary addressed the gathering, she emphasized the importance of planting trees in maintaining ecological balance and enhancing communal well-being. He also reiterated the Hon. Prime Minister’s vision of “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” and “Viksit Bharat,” appealing to cooperative groups to make environmental consciousness a fundamental part of their values in order to build a more sustainable and prosperous future. Cooperative groups are crucial for promoting social responsibility and implementing grassroots initiatives, he underlined. To conclude the program, Mr. K.P. Aboo Backer, general secretary of the A&N State Cooperative Union, offered a vote of gratitude.
