The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is preparing to take decisive action against a number of its Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) who were absent from crucial sessions during the recent West Bengal Assembly budget session. This move comes as the party leadership expresses serious concern over repeated instances of absenteeism, particularly after a party whip was issued.
The TMC leadership is set to implement disciplinary measures against MLAs who defied the party whip and failed to attend assembly sessions. The party’s Legislative Disciplinary Committee is taking the lead in this process. TMC has been meticulously reviewing attendance records, scrutinizing the registers where MLAs are required to sign their presence. The party is distinguishing between MLAs with valid reasons for their absence and those who were absent without justification. TMC had issued a whip, directing all MLAs to be present in the Assembly on March 19 and 20.
However, a significant number of MLAs failed to adhere to this directive. TMC leadership views repeated absenteeism as a serious matter, deeming it an act of irresponsibility. The party intends to take firm action to ensure MLAs fulfill their duties. The actions will be taken once Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee returns from her trip to London. TMC Disciplinary Committee will summon the absentee MLAs to provide explanations for their absence. The speaker of the house is providing lists of absent MLA’s to the disciplinary commitee.
