Tamil Nadu insists that Karnataka cannot proceed without its consent, as per inter-state water-sharing agreements.
The dispute has led to legal battles and political tensions, with Tamil Nadu taking steps, including legal actions, to prevent the project’s implementation. Karnataka, on the other hand, believes the project will benefit both states and has sought clearance from the Union Government.
