According to the global theme for this year, “Ending Plastic Pollution – #BeatPlasticPollution,” Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, led several important environmental projects at Swaraj Dweep in celebration of World Environment Day 2025. Island-hopping tours The Chief Secretary spearheaded a tree-planting initiative at the renowned Radhanagar Beach and Dolphin Resort grounds to show the Administration’s strong commitment to ecological conservation and sustainable development.

Dr. Kumar stressed the pressing need to address the growing problem of plastic pollution in his remarks to the audience. He promoted more public involvement in environmental conservation initiatives as well as group accountability. The Swaraj Dweep Forest Division planned a variety of awareness-raising events to go along with the main event, such as a rally, cleanliness campaigns, a mangrove plantation, a tidal walk, a nature trail, and bird-watching opportunities. These programs celebrated the island’s natural heritage while promoting environmental awareness among locals and tourists.
