The Supreme Court on Monday urged the Centre and relevant authorities to reassess their action plan for reducing air pollution in Delhi-NCR and evaluate whether the measures implemented have been effective, ANI reported. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant questioned whether the strategies had achieved meaningful results or fell short of expectations. The court also asked Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, representing the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), to examine other contributors to pollution beyond stubble burning, cautioning against blaming farmers who lack representation in court. The SC highlighted that skies were clear during COVID lockdowns despite ongoing stubble burning, questioning why air quality has deteriorated now. The matter will be reviewed at least twice monthly, with a hearing scheduled for December 10.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality remained in the “poor” category on Monday, with the AQI rising to 299 by 7 AM, following two days of poor ratings. Nehru Nagar recorded the highest AQI at 354, classified as “very poor,” while other areas like Rohini, Bawana, and RK Puram also faced hazardous levels. Despite this, Delhi-NCR’s average AQI for January-November 2025 is the lowest in eight years, excluding 2020.
