Mumbai, October 10: Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty has approached the Bombay High Court seeking protection of his personality rights, citing unauthorized use of his photographs across various social media platforms and websites. The actor filed an interim application requesting the removal of such content and a restraining order against further misuse.
Represented by senior advocate Birendra Saraf, Shetty alleged that his images were being used for commercial promotion by entities with no affiliation to him. These include real estate agencies, astrology websites, and gambling platforms. The plea also highlighted the circulation of a disturbing deepfake image featuring Shetty with his grandchild, raising serious concerns about digital impersonation and privacy violations.
Justice Arif Doctor heard the matter and reserved the order on Shetty’s interim application. The actor emphasized that the unauthorized use of his likeness not only infringes on his personality rights but also risks misleading the public and damaging his reputation.
The case underscores growing concerns around celebrity image rights and the misuse of digital content in the age of social media and AI-generated media.
