The Department of Education, A&N Administration, in collaboration with the Bakultala Panchayat, successfully hosted a lively Street Chess event this evening at Bakultala Junction, attracting an eager and varied audience of chess enthusiasts from the local area and beyond.
The bustling Bakultala Junction was transformed into a vibrant open-air chess venue, where individuals of all ages gathered to engage in enjoyable and friendly matches. The street buzzed with energy, filled with laughter, strategic moves, and spectators observing with keen interest — truly reflecting the joy and thrill of chess.
The event was jointly inaugurated by Shri V. Ranjit Kumar, Assistant Director (PE/Sports), DEO Rangat, and Shri Bishunu Pada Mondal, Samiti Member, Bakultala, who made the ceremonial first move on the chessboard to officially commence the evening.
In his speech, the Assistant Director of Sports emphasized the increasing popularity of chess throughout the islands, pointing out that the game not only improves concentration and decision-making abilities but also aids in diverting children from excessive screen time and detrimental habits.
The event garnered an overwhelming response from the local community. Schoolchildren and members of the general public participated in significant numbers, showcasing commendable sportsmanship, enthusiasm, and a collective passion for chess. As a token of appreciation, all participants were awarded gifts.
