New Delhi: Sonakshi Sinha, who is presently promoting her latest film Nikita Roy, expressed her views to NDTV regarding the prohibition of Pakistani actors in India following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. The discussion concerning the ban on Pakistani actors in India has re-emerged after Diljit Dosanjh’s film Sardaar Ji 3 faced controversy for featuring the Pakistani actress Hania Aamir.
When NDTV inquired about Sonakshi Sinha’s perspective on the ban of Pakistani actors in India, the actress responded, “Do they permit Indian actors to work there? I mean, I stand in solidarity with my country. I will always support the decisions they make.” In the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees, an organization representing film industry workers, called for a boycott of Pakistani artists, singers, and technicians within the Indian film sector. They had previously advocated for a similar ban following the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, which resulted in the deaths of 35 paramilitary personnel.
In light of the Pahalgam attack, this organization reiterated its stance. “Despite the existing directive, we have been informed of the recent collaboration with Pakistani actor Fawad Khan for the Hindi film, ‘Abir Gulaal’. In response to the recent incident in Pahalgam, FWICE is once again forced to impose a comprehensive boycott on all Pakistani artists, singers, and technicians involved in any Indian film or entertainment projects. This encompasses performances or collaborations taking place anywhere globally,” the organization stated in an announcement. Following the call for a ban on Pakistani artists in India, the release of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s ‘Abir Gulal’ was postponed in May. Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ opted out of an Indian release to evade controversy. The film is set to premiere in theaters abroad (including Pakistan) on June 27. Regarding Sonakshi’s ‘Nikita Roy’, the film signifies her brother Kussh S Sinha’s directorial debut. It features Sonakshi Sinha in the lead role alongside Paresh Rawal, Arjun Rampal, and Suhail Nayyar.
