Television icon and Union Minister Smriti Irani has officially unveiled her first look as Tulsi Virani in the reboot of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, marking her return to acting after a 15-year hiatus. The announcement coincides with the show’s 25th anniversary and has sparked a wave of nostalgia among fans of the original series, which first aired in 2000.
In the newly released image, Irani dons a maroon saree with a golden zari border, paired with minimal jewellery, a sleek bun, and her signature bold red bindi—evoking the grace and strength that defined Tulsi’s character. The look has been widely praised for retaining the essence of the original while offering a refreshed visual appeal.
Irani shared her sentiments in an official statement, saying, “Returning to Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is not just a step back into a role, but a return to a story that redefined Indian television and reshaped my own life. It gave me more than commercial success—it gave me a connection with millions of homes, a place in the emotional fabric of a generation.”
The reboot, produced by Ekta Kapoor under Balaji Telefilms, is set to premiere on Star Plus from July 28, 2025. Alongside Irani, original cast members Amar Upadhyay, Hiten Tejwani, and Gauri Pradhan will reprise their roles, promising a blend of legacy and contemporary storytelling.
The first promo is scheduled to air tonight at 10:30 PM, offering audiences a glimpse into the new chapter of one of Indian television’s most beloved sagas.
