Shruti Haasan says she is “not a fan” of Justin Bieber, calls mental health a global issue, and opens up about life choices, her father’s advice and the reasons for avoiding “happy” pop like “Baby”.
Shruti Haasan recently appeared on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast where she spoke about various aspects of her life, why she decided not to get married, her views on motherhood and more. She was also asked about her outlook on mental health, where the host mentioned pop star Justin Bieber, who released his seventh studio album “Swag” on the same day. Bieber has been in the news for his mental health struggles, including his recent outburst at paparazzi. Shruti said she is “not a Justin Bieber fan,” but called the mental health issue “a global problem.”
Shruti Haasan on Justin Bieber
During an episode of The Ranveer Show, the host asked Shruti, “Do you like Justin Bieber? He seems to be going through a tough time,” referring to the popstar’s struggle with mental health. He then asked if she had seen the videos. Shruti nodded yes. She added, “I’ve always said, and this is not an ‘evil’ excuse, the world is going through a very challenging time for everyone right now. I think everyone is going through some tough times. It’s just that when you put a camera on it, it becomes even more obvious. But I promise you, it’s not a Justin Bieber problem, it’s a global problem right now.”
However, Shruti clarified that she doesn’t know Bieber personally, and doesn’t like his music either, so she didn’t want to give any harsh opinions. But when asked why she doesn’t like his music, she said, “Because it’s too happy,” which left the host a little surprised. “His music is too happy. I think the first song I heard of his disappointed me. Baby, I think,” she said. She clarified that she likes pop music and follows many pop artists, just not Bieber. She added, “Maybe his music is not my kind of pop music.”
In the later part of the interview, the Ramaiya Vastavaiya star spoke about how she deals with bad times and recalled a lesson her father Kamal Haasan always reminds her of. She said, “To be honest, and I have said this in many interviews, he always gives me this advice: ‘Don’t be afraid of pain. There’s no gain without pain.’ If you have a challenge, face it. Accept it. Of course, be practical, don’t hurt yourself, but still, there’s no gain without pain. You shouldn’t be afraid of challenges.”
On the other hand, Bieber ended his four-year music hiatus with the recently released SWAG. In the 21-track album, the popstar opened up about his mental health issues and also touched upon his marital problems. Rumours of a breakup between Bieber and Hailey have surfaced several times, and the Road to Fame founder has outright denied these rumours several times. But in the new track, Bieber makes it clear that he’s not walking away. Although he subtly confirms that there have been some issues between them, he has also drawn the line. The couple welcomed their first child, Jack Blues, last year.
