Shah Rukh Khan recently reflected on how his past has made him the person he is today, highlighting that his success is a result of more than just his own efforts. Shah Rukh Khan’s fame knows no bounds and it is not just because of his exceptional acting talent or the many memorable performances he has given.
What makes him the Baadshah of Bollywood is the persona he is off screen as well – defined by love and compassion for others, and a genuine desire to bring about the change he wants to see in society. As one of India’s wealthiest movie stars, Shah Rukh is equally admired for his philanthropic efforts.
Recently, Shah Rukh reflected on how his past has made him the person he is today, highlighting that his success is a result of more than just his own efforts. “I come from a very poor, lower middle class background in India. So, I never had any intention of giving anything back. I think that’s… not wrong… that’s not how I think about philanthropy. I think, for me it means that I am very respectful of what I have received. I just thanked everyone, it’s from the bottom of my heart. I completely understand that my success is not just because of me; it’s a lot of people coming together, the way I have lived my life, whether it’s through my cinema or on a personal level,” Shah Rukh said at the Global Freight Summit in Dubai.
He further added, “Everything that has come to me, including fame and fortune, is not mine. I am not being too modest; I am being honest, it’s not mine. I would be ignorant to think that everything that has happened to me, including standing on the railing outside my house, is only because of me. It’s never a one-way street.
I can go out and stand on the railing of my house; Nobody needs to love me. It’s a two-way street. When you are chosen for a reason; I don’t even know the reason; when you are chosen and you get this privilege of good luck, I think it’s a natural consequence that you need to share it with the people who have made it possible.”
“I am sharing it with my colleagues. I just want everyone to get the opportunities that I got in life when I came from Delhi as a lower middle class boy with no money in his pocket. I just want the philanthropy part of it to be, a lot of people gave me opportunities, can I also give an opportunity to someone who is like me and whose life can change with the privileges of good luck that I have received,” the Badshah of Bollywood said.
Shahrukh Khan, who was last seen in director Rajkumar Hirani’s comedy drama Dunki (2023), is currently working on Sujoy Ghosh’s King. In this upcoming film, he will share the screen with his daughter Suhana Khan.
