A tense encounter unfolded in the Shingpora area of Chhatru, Kishtwar district, as security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation following an exchange of fire with suspected terrorists. Acting on precise intelligence inputs, a joint operation was initiated by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and paramilitary forces to track down the militants believed to be hiding in the region. Officials confirmed that contact had been established with the terrorists, prompting additional troop deployment to neutralize the threat.
Sources suggest that the militants belong to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) outfit, raising concerns about continued militant activity in the region. The same group had reportedly escaped during an earlier encounter, prompting heightened security measures.
While no official confirmation has been made regarding casualties from today’s operation, security sources revealed that a District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawan was killed in an IED blast on Wednesday evening. The situation remains volatile, with intermittent firing continuing as forces attempt to neutralize the terrorists and secure the area.
This encounter follows a series of anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier this month, six terrorists—including three JeM operatives—were killed in two major joint operations by security forces in the Valley. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to dismantling militant networks and preventing further infiltration into sensitive regions. The operation in Kishtwar is ongoing, with security forces maintaining a high alert as they work to eliminate the remaining threats.
