Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has been fined ₹24 lakh for his team’s slow over-rate during their IPL 2025 match against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This was the Royals’ second over-rate offence of the season, as per the IPL’s Code of Conduct. Alongside Samson’s penalty, the other players in the playing XI, including the Impact Player, were fined ₹6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever is lesser.
The match itself was a tough outing for the Royals, as they failed to chase a daunting target of 218 runs set by Gujarat Titans. Rajasthan Royals were bowled out for 159 in 19.2 overs, losing the game by 58 runs. Despite a promising knock of 41 runs by Samson and a spirited 52-run effort by Shimron Hetmyer, the team struggled against Gujarat’s disciplined bowling attack.
This penalty adds to the Royals’ challenges this season, as they have faced inconsistency in their performances. The team is now under pressure to bounce back and improve their standings in the league. Samson acknowledged the lapses in execution during the game and emphasized the need for the team to address these issues moving forward.
