Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has clarified that Operation Sindoor, India’s high-intensity cross-border military offensive launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, has not concluded but is currently paused. Addressing Parliament and speaking at multiple defence events, Singh emphasized that the operation was halted only after Pakistan requested a ceasefire and India’s strategic objectives were met.

Operation Sindoor was launched on May 10, 2025, following a brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, where Pakistan-backed militants killed 26 unarmed Indian tourists after identifying them by religion. In retaliation, Indian armed forces executed precision strikes on multiple terror infrastructure targets located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation involved coordinated efforts by the Army, Air Force, and Navy, and resulted in the destruction of nine high-value terror hubs and the elimination of over 100 militants.

Singh stated that the decision to pause the operation was not made under any external pressure but was a strategic choice after achieving the intended military and political goals. He reiterated that if Pakistan engages in further misadventures, India is prepared to resume Operation Sindoor without hesitation.

The Defence Minister also highlighted the role of citizens, especially those in border areas, who supported the armed forces during the operation. He described Operation Sindoor as a symbol of New India’s resolve and a continuation of the country’s evolving warfare doctrine, following the 2016 surgical strikes and the 2019 Balakot airstrikes.

At the commissioning of INS Udaygiri and INS Himgiri, Singh and Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi reinforced the message that Operation Sindoor remains active in principle. The Navy Chief noted that the operation had forced the Pakistan Navy into retreat and demonstrated India’s maritime strength and deterrence capability.

In Parliament, Singh also praised India’s air defence systems, including the S-400 and counter-drone technologies, for successfully intercepting attempted retaliatory strikes by Pakistan. He confirmed that no Indian assets were damaged during the operation.

Operation Sindoor is being hailed as a decisive and technologically advanced military campaign, reflecting India’s commitment to eliminating terrorism at its roots. The Defence Minister concluded by asserting that national security is a collective responsibility and that India will continue to act firmly against any threat to its sovereignty.
