The chief secretary of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration has received a formal petition from Mr. Rangalal Halder, president of the Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee, urging the immediate installation of cutting-edge solar-powered street lights in Harminder Bay, Little Andaman. In his letter, Mr. Halder emphasized the area’s ongoing problem of poor street lighting, which has long impacted locals’ safety and ability to move around at night. He emphasized that inadequate lighting puts commuters and pedestrians at risk and increases the area’s susceptibility to illegal activity.

Mr. Halder emphasized that solar-powered street lights would be a sustainable, effective, and affordable substitute for traditional electricity-based lighting systems, citing the region’s considerable solar energy potential. Given the proposal’s long-term advantages for the community, he asked the administration to give it top priority. In order to speed up the project’s execution, Mr. Halder also asked for an urgent review of the proposal, which would include a site visit and any required clearances. He underlined that prompt action on this issue will significantly improve public safety and the general standard of living for locals.
