Ahead of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Amethi, provocative posters branding him as a “supporter of terror” appeared at various locations across the city, including near the Congress office and the local bus stand. The posters, which read “Aatank ka saathi Rahul Gandhi,” sparked political tensions and raised concerns about security measures in the area.

The identity of those responsible for the posters remains unknown, despite police efforts to prevent such incidents. Authorities had been on alert to restrict the circulation of such material, but their efforts fell short. The posters have added to the political rhetoric surrounding the Pahalgam terror attack, with some opposition leaders’ remarks drawing sharp reactions.

Rahul Gandhi, who now represents Rae Bareli in the Lok Sabha, is on a two-day visit to Rae Bareli and Amethi. His itinerary includes inspecting an ordnance factory, inaugurating a new heart surgery operation theatre and ambulance service at the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, and visiting the Indira Gandhi College of Nursing to interact with students and faculty. Later in the day, he is scheduled to travel to Kanpur to meet the family of Shubham Dwivedi, one of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.

The incident has escalated political tensions in Amethi, with Congress party workers preparing to welcome Gandhi along his route despite the controversy. The local administration has been working to remove the posters and ensure a smooth visit for the Congress leader. This development highlights the ongoing challenges in maintaining political decorum and addressing sensitive issues in the region.
