Russian President Vladimir Putin has accepted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation to visit India, as confirmed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Lavrov shared this update during a video address at the “Russia and India: Toward a New Bilateral Agenda” conference hosted by the Russian International Affairs Council.
Lavrov mentioned that arrangements are underway for Putin’s visit, although specific dates have not been disclosed. He highlighted that Modi’s first foreign visit after his re-election last year was to Russia, and now it’s Russia’s turn to reciprocate. Modi had previously visited Russia in July 2024, marking his first trip to the country in nearly five years. During that visit, Modi extended the invitation to Putin.
This visit is expected to further strengthen the “privileged strategic partnership” between India and Russia, a term frequently used by both nations to describe their bilateral relations. The two leaders maintain regular contact through phone calls and meetings at international events.
