The Punjab Police on Wednesday announced the dismantling of a significant espionage network with alleged ties to Pakistan-based handlers and terror outfits, leading to the arrest of Jasbir Singh, a Rupnagar resident who runs the YouTube channel “Jaan Mahal.”
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav confirmed the breakthrough on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Acting swiftly on actionable intelligence, SSOC Mohali has unearthed a critical espionage network linked to Jasbir Singh, a resident of Village Mahlan, Rupnagar.”
Official sources reveal that Jasbir Singh was in close contact with Shakir, a Person of Indian Origin (PIO) also known as Jutt Randhawa, who is suspected of involvement in a terror-backed espionage ring. Singh also maintained communication with Jyoti Malhotra, a Haryana-based YouTuber previously arrested on spying charges, and Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, an expelled Pakistani national and former official from the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi.
Investigators disclosed that Jasbir Singh attended the Pakistan National Day event in Delhi at Danish’s invitation, where he reportedly met several Pakistani Army officers and vloggers. Significantly, Singh had visited Pakistan on three occasions: in 2020, 2021, and 2024.
Forensic analysis of Singh’s electronic devices has uncovered multiple Pakistan-based phone numbers, which are now under detailed examination to uncover further operational details and international connections. Following Jyoti Malhotra’s arrest, Singh allegedly attempted to delete his communication history with the accused PIOs to evade detection.
A formal First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at the SSOC Police Station in Mohali, and an investigation is ongoing.
