
On 1st August 2025, the Anti-Narcotics Police Station of South Andaman apprehended a man carrying 850 grams of illicit ganja after arriving in Sri Vijaya Puram on an Air India Express flight. The operation was initiated after receiving credible intelligence that a person from the mainland was transporting ganja with the intention to sell it locally. The suspect was identified near the airport’s auto stand and was arrested. The bag was found to contain a transparent polythene packet, which was tested on the spot using a drug detection kit and confirmed to be ganja. The contraband, weighing approximately 850 grams, was sealed and seized. The entire process was witnessed and documented in the presence of two independent witnesses. A case under Section 20(b)(ii)(A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 has been registered at PS Anti-Narcotics.
