Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has raised sharp concerns over the credibility of India’s electoral process, alleging that “every step of the poll process arouses suspicion.” Speaking at a press briefing, she demanded that the Chief Election Commissioner and the two Election Commissioners explain how they “conspired to take away people’s voting rights.”

Her remarks come amid heightened political tensions, with opposition parties accusing the Election Commission of failing to ensure transparency in recent state polls. Gandhi’s statement has added fuel to the ongoing debate over electoral reforms, particularly regarding the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and the monitoring of voter rolls.

Political analysts note that the Congress party is attempting to sharpen its attack on the ruling establishment by questioning institutional accountability. The comments are expected to trigger a strong response from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has consistently defended the Election Commission’s neutrality and efficiency.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has not yet issued an official statement in response to Gandhi’s allegations. Sources within the Commission indicated that the body is likely to reiterate its commitment to free and fair elections, pointing to past Supreme Court rulings that upheld the credibility of the electoral process.
