Prime Minister Narendra Modi has landed in Bangkok, Thailand, for a two-day visit to participate in the 6th BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) Summit. Upon his arrival, he was warmly welcomed by Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Suriya Jungrungreangkit. Members of the Indian diaspora in Thailand also greeted him enthusiastically, showcasing cultural performances like Bhangra.


During his visit, PM Modi is set to engage in discussions with his Thai counterpart, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, and other leaders from BIMSTEC member nations, including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Myanmar, and Bhutan. The summit will focus on strengthening regional cooperation in areas such as economic development, connectivity, and maritime collaboration. One of the key highlights will be the signing of the Agreement on Maritime Cooperation, aimed at enhancing ties among the Bay of Bengal nations.


In his departure statement, PM Modi emphasized the importance of BIMSTEC as a platform for fostering regional development and connectivity, particularly in the Bay of Bengal region. This visit also marks his first trip to Sri Lanka since the election of its new president, further underlining India’s commitment to regional partnerships.
