In a significant political development, Anil Singh, a former BJP leader, and Shambhu Patel, a senior JD(U) member, have switched sides to join the Congress. Their induction, led by Bihar Congress chief Rajesh Kumar, comes just months before the state assembly elections, signaling a potential shift in Bihar’s political landscape.
Rajesh Kumar described Singh’s move as a “homecoming”, highlighting his family’s deep-rooted ties with the Congress. Singh’s father, Ram Raj Singh, had served as a minister when the party ruled Bihar, and Singh himself has represented the Chandi assembly seat twice—once on a Congress ticket and later as an MLA of the Samata Party, the JD(U)’s previous avatar.
Patel, a former JD(U) state general secretary, cited internal dissatisfaction as the reason for his exit. He stated that he felt “stifled” within the party and saw Congress as a better platform to contribute to Bihar’s political future.
The Congress hopes that the induction of Singh and Patel will strengthen its position ahead of the assembly elections. With Bihar’s political landscape constantly evolving, this move could influence voter sentiment, especially among disillusioned NDA supporters.
