Purnea, Bihar — Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) during a high-profile rally in Purnea on Monday, accusing both parties of being unable to “digest Bihar’s growth” and of “threatening the state’s identity” by allegedly patronising infiltrators in eastern India.
The remarks came as Modi unveiled a series of development projects worth approximately ₹36,000 crore, aimed at boosting infrastructure, connectivity, and rural livelihoods across Bihar. The Prime Minister inaugurated a new terminal at Purnea Airport and flagged off the first Purnea–Kolkata flight. He also laid the foundation stone for a ₹25,000-crore ultra-supercritical thermal power plant in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur — touted as Bihar’s largest private sector investment to date.
Other major initiatives included:
- Phase 1 of the ₹2,680-crore Kosi-Mechi Intra-State River Link Project to enhance irrigation and flood control in northeastern Bihar.
- Inauguration of a ₹4,410-crore rail line between Araria and Galgalia.
- Foundation stone for the ₹2,170-crore Bikramshila–Katareah rail line.
- Flagging off the Jogbani–Danapur Vande Bharat Express and Amrit Bharat trains connecting Saharsa–Chheharta (Amritsar) and Jogbani–Erode.
Modi also participated in Griha Pravesh ceremonies for over 40,000 households under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana and distributed ₹500 crore in community investment funds under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission.
In his address, the Prime Minister accused Congress and RJD leaders of prioritising family interests over national development. “Congress and RJD leaders are only worried about their families, while I work for ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vishwas’,” he said. He further alleged that the opposition parties were protecting infiltrators in Bihar, Bengal, and Assam, and reiterated the Centre’s commitment to removing them.
Modi linked the issue of infiltration to a broader demographic challenge, stating, “A huge demographic crisis has arisen due to infiltrators in Seemanchal and Eastern India. People are worried about the safety of their sisters and daughters.” He cited the recently announced Demography Mission as a strategic response to this concern.
The Prime Minister’s remarks come ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, with Modi urging voters — especially women — to deliver a decisive response to the opposition. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary, and several Union ministers and MPs were present at the event.
The rally marked a significant political and developmental moment, positioning Bihar’s growth narrative at the centre of national discourse while intensifying the BJP’s electoral messaging in the state.
