Beginning on April 21, 2025, the public will be able to visit the Sippighat and Garacharma farms for the much-anticipated Agro Eco Walk hosted by the ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI), Sri Vijaya Puram. This program encourages sustainable farming and biodiversity protection while providing locals and visitors with a unique chance to see the Islands’ agricultural magnificence. The Agro Eco Walk showcases ICAR-CIARI’s continuous work in agri-research, conservation, and community outreach while attempting to combine education with fun.
Sippighat Farm Highlights: At the Sippighat Farm, guests can explore plantations that grow spices and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. One of the main attractions is the World Coconut Germplasm Centre, which preserves a wide variety of coconut kinds from all over the world. The Mangrove Viewpoint provides a breathtaking view of the island’s delicate coastal habitats, while the Spice Processing Unit provides information on post-harvest technologies and value addition. At the Farm Sale Point, fresh produce grown nearby will also be for sale.
Garacharma Farm Attractions: The Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Ayurvatika, a peaceful garden of therapeutic and fragrant plants honoring the former President, is located in the Garacharma Farm. The distinctive Nakshatra Garden showcases plants associated with the 27 heavenly stars, fusing astrology and botany. Families, students, and nature enthusiasts will adore it for its horticulture nursery full of native and rare plant species, ornamental fish breeding unit, exotic fancy birds, and soothing fish bath.
The Agro Eco Walk will be available from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Saturday. The Sale Points at each farm are where entry tickets can be bought. By letting the public in, ICAR-CIARI intends to raise awareness of the area’s agro-biodiversity and scientific agricultural methods while providing an entertaining and instructive experience for everyone.
