According to the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) official website, Oman has announced a new-look roster for their inaugural Asia Cup appearance. Oman will be led by seasoned opener Jatinder Singh during the eight-team competition. The team is paired with India, Pakistan, and the hosts, the United Arab Emirates, in Group A. The 17-member team is different from the players who participated in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies last year because four new players—Sufyan Yousuf, Zikriya Islam, Faisal Shah, and Nadeem Khan—are scheduled to make their international debuts.
Head coach Duleep Mendis is eager to see what the team can do in their first-ever Asia Cup debut. “Any cricket player should cherish the opportunity to play against nations like India and Pakistan. In a fast-paced Twenty20 match, anything can happen, and one brilliant over can make all the difference,” he continued. “Our training sessions have been rigorous and targeted, and the current National T20 tournament has given us competitive exposure, so we’ve had a good build-up.
“We want to make an impact in this Asia Cup and showcase Oman as a cricketing nation in progress,” he stated. Oman takes a blend of youth and experience to the Asia Cup in an attempt to leave an impact against the region’s cricketing powerhouses. The competition will put their mental fortitude to the test on one of the sport’s most viewed stages in addition to their skill set,” he said.
