Bengaluru, October 6, 2025 — Ola Electric has achieved a significant milestone in India’s electric mobility sector by becoming the country’s first original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to receive official government certification for its in-house ferrite motor production. The certification, granted by the Ministry of Heavy Industries, marks a major step forward in domestic EV component manufacturing and aligns with India’s broader push for self-reliance under the Make in India initiative.
Ferrite motors are a critical component in electric vehicles, offering cost-effective and energy-efficient alternatives to traditional rare-earth magnet-based motors. Ola Electric’s successful development and certification of these motors underscore its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and vertical integration.
The company’s ferrite motor technology has been fully designed, developed, and manufactured at its Futurefactory in Tamil Nadu. According to Ola Electric, the motors are optimized for high performance and durability, and will be deployed across its upcoming range of electric scooters and motorcycles.
Bhavish Aggarwal, Founder and CEO of Ola Electric, stated, “This certification validates our technological leadership and strengthens our position as a vertically integrated EV company. We’re proud to pioneer indigenous motor technology that reduces dependence on imports and enhances affordability for Indian consumers.”
The certification also qualifies Ola Electric for incentives under the government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for Advanced Automotive Technology (AAT), which aims to boost domestic manufacturing of EV components and reduce reliance on global supply chains.
Industry experts view this development as a strategic breakthrough, potentially setting a precedent for other OEMs to invest in localized motor technologies. With ferrite motors offering a scalable and cost-efficient solution, Ola’s move could accelerate EV adoption across price-sensitive markets.
Ola Electric is currently preparing for the launch of its new electric motorcycle lineup and expanding its battery cell production capabilities. The ferrite motor certification adds another layer of credibility to its manufacturing ecosystem and reinforces its ambition to lead India’s EV revolution.
