Patna, October 8, 2025 — Union Minister Giriraj Singh has confirmed that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will be the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) official candidate for the Chief Minister’s post in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. The announcement puts to rest speculation surrounding the leadership face of the alliance ahead of the polls.
Speaking to reporters in Patna, Singh stated, “There is no confusion. Nitish Kumar is the NDA’s CM face. All alliance partners are united behind him.” He emphasized that the decision was made collectively by senior leaders within the NDA, including representatives from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Janata Dal (United), and other regional allies.
Nitish Kumar, who currently heads the JD(U), has served multiple terms as Chief Minister and remains a central figure in Bihar’s political landscape. His alliance with the BJP was renewed in early 2024 after a brief stint with the opposition bloc, INDIA. The renewed partnership has since focused on governance stability and development initiatives across the state.
The announcement comes amid growing political activity in Bihar, with parties ramping up campaign efforts and candidate selection processes. The Election Commission is expected to release the official schedule for the Assembly polls later this month.
Political analysts view the NDA’s decision as a strategic move to consolidate votes in favor of continuity and experience, especially in rural and semi-urban constituencies where Nitish Kumar retains significant influence.
Opposition parties, including the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress, have yet to announce their chief ministerial candidate, although Tejashwi Yadav is widely considered the frontrunner.
With the NDA’s leadership question now settled, attention is expected to shift toward manifesto promises, alliance seat-sharing arrangements, and voter outreach programs in the weeks ahead.
