Nausheen Ali Sardar says renowned matchmaker Seema Taparia allegedly turned down her matchmaking request due to her religious identity.

Television actor Nausheen Ali Sardar, best known for her roles in the television show Kusum, recently opened up about a bizarre experience she had a few years ago when renowned matchmaker Seema Taparia allegedly turned down her matchmaking request due to her religious identity. For those who don’t know, Mumbai-based marriage counsellor Seema is the face of the hit Netflix reality series Indian Matchmaking, where she “guides clients from around the world through the process of arranged marriages, and takes a look at the practice in the modern age.”

While speaking to Siddharth Kannan, Nausheen said, “My sister approached her because her show was a hit. I think it was during Covid when my sister told me, ‘Yaar, you don’t know how to find the right life partner. At least let us help you.’ I gave her the green signal saying I have no problem and if I find someone I like, I will settle down. She had watched the show and said we will ‘talk’ to him. My problem was that I am Muslim but don’t believe in Islam. So who is the right guy for me?”

Nausheen recalled Seema Taparia’s reaction that shocked her. She claimed that Seema refused to take her on as a client because of her religion. According to Nausheen, she reportedly said, “We can’t find someone for you because you are Muslim.”

She also accused the matchmaker of having outdated ideas about womanhood. Nausheen further said, “I used to make fun of her because of her character in the show. She says in the show, ‘A girl should always be quiet and keep her eyes down.’ I laughed to myself, thinking that this is the same person who is telling me that he is not able to find anyone for me because of my religion.” Born to an Iranian mother and a Punjabi father, Nausheen Ali Sardar grew up in a Catholic society and school.
