In an interview with the Yomiuri Shimbun, Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed that his trip to China was a tribute to the two countries’ stable bilateral relations. PM Modi says that preserving peace in the Indo-Pacific region depends on having stable ties with China. “I would be going from here to Tianjin to participate in the SCO Summit at President Xi Jinping’s invitation. In a written response to an interview for The Yomiuri Shimbun, he stated, “Since my meeting with President Xi in Kazan last year, our bilateral ties have made steady and positive progress.”

According to PM Modi, the prosperity of the region will be positively impacted by positive neighborly interactions. “As two neighbors and the two biggest countries on earth, stable, predictable, and friendly bilateral relations between India and China can have a positive impact on regional and global peace and prosperity,” he stated. Given the unpredictability, PM Modi stated that stable India-China relations were also crucial for the multipolar world.

On a two-day official visit scheduled for August 29–30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed Delhi for Japan in order to attend the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit. The prime minister will travel to China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Tianjin after his trip to Japan. “At the request of President Xi Jinping, I will go from Japan to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Tianjin. India participates actively in the SCO and makes contributions.
